How it works

The calculator works out the legal minimum under the BVG, with the 2026 figures. If you earn more than CHF 22'680 with one employer, the law requires you to be insured. The calculator then takes your salary, up to CHF 90'720, and subtracts a fixed amount, the coordination deduction of CHF 26'460. What's left is your insured, or coordinated, salary, at least CHF 3'780. Each year the fund credits a share of it to your savings: the savings credit, set by your age. If it's split evenly, half the credit comes off your pay:

25–34 7%3.5%
35–44 your age10%5%
45–54 15%7.5%
55–65 18%9%

Most people in a pension fund are in a plan that insures more than this minimum, for example a larger part of the salary or higher credits. At the end of 2024 that was 84.6% of active insured people, says the Federal Statistical Office. What your own fund pays is on your pension certificate, the Vorsorgeausweis. If it shows your BVG savings on a line of their own, those are the part this calculator covers.

Like the example on the Pensionskasse page, the calculator splits the savings credit evenly. Your fund's rules set who really pays how much: your employer must pay at least as much as all its employees together, and many pay more. The fund also collects contributions for death and disability cover and for its costs, so the BVG deduction on your payslip can be more or less than the half the calculator shows.

The projection runs to 65, the reference age: the age the AHV pension normally starts at. Until then your salary, the 2026 figures and the interest rate stay the same every year. It counts every year in full up to the one you turn 64 and leaves out the months before your 65th birthday. So the result comes out low, by at most one more year's credit at 18% and its interest. For women born from 1961 to 1963, the reference age lies between 64 and 65, so for them the result can also come out high. Buy-ins, early withdrawals and early retirement aren't included.

At 65 the fund turns your savings into a pension for life with the conversion rate: the share of the savings you get as a pension every year. The law sets at least 6.8%, but only for the mandatory part, which this calculator shows. A fund that insures the minimum and more in one plan may apply a lower rate to all of the savings, as long as you get at least the legal minimum. More under pension or lump sum.

The entry threshold is CHF 22'680 a year. If you earn no more than that from one employer, the law doesn't require you to be insured, though some funds insure you anyway. If your salaries from several employers add up to more, or if you work for yourself, you can insure yourself voluntarily.
